An Outdoor Classroom Experiencestudents on field trip

Located in the Gabilan Mountains, Hollister Hills SVRA offers 6,800 acres for numerous off-highway vehicle (OHV) opportunities as well as designated hiking, bicycling, and equestrian trails. Educational opportunities connects students to their local natural and cultural resources while fostering stewardship of our public lands.

Program Information

  • Adult chaperones and teachers are in charge of discipline and first aid on field trips.
  • Maximum 1 chaperone for every 10 students.
  • There is no charge for field trips. School groups grades K-12 who have made a reservation at least 14 days in advance will receive free parking passes in a confirmation packet. 
  • Maximum 2 classes per field trip. (Larger group sizes may be accomodated based on staffing levels).
  • Field trips start at 10am and typically end around 12pm depending on group size.

Field Trip Options

1st THROUGH 4th GRADE - EVERY ANIMAL IS BUILT TO SURVIVE?model skull at kids program

Description: On this nature walk students discover the wildlife that calls Gavilan Hills their home, focusing on animal adaptations and habitats.

Bring: Participants are encouraged to bring a snack, lunch, water, comfortable walking shoes, and dressed to play in the outdoors.

Time: Field trips start at 10am. A field trip for two classrooms typically end by noon.

Standards: this program is geared towards 2nd grade age groups, and aligns with the Next Generation Science Standards including but not limited to 2-LS2-1, 2LS2-2, 2LS4-1, 4LS1-1, 4-LS1-2, 2ESS1-1, 2ESS2-1. (In most cases, our programs may be tailored to your group's grade level and curriculum.)

Cost: There is no charge for school tours.  School groups grades K-12 who have made a reservation at least 14 days in advance will receive free parking passes in a confirmation packet. Funding for transportation to the park may be available - inquire upon field trip request.

 


 

5th GRADE - WALK THE FAULTstudents walking on trail

Description: The San Andreas Fault divides Hollister Hills in two distinct landscapes. On this geologic excursion in the Nature Area, students explore the Pacific Tectonic plate and its affects on our local soil and plant communities. 

Bring: Participants are encouraged to bring a snack, lunch, water, comfortable walking shoes, and dressed to play in the outdoors.

Time: Field trips start at 10am. A field trip for two classrooms typically end by noon.

Standards: this program is geared towards 5th grade age groups, and aligns with the Next Generation Science Standards including but not limited to 4-ESS1-1 and 5-ESS3-1. (In most cases, our programs may be tailored to your group's grade level and curriculum.)

ALL GRADES - GUIDED HIKE

Description: choose a guided hike through Mudstone Ranch (rolling hills and grasslands) or the Nature Area (oak woodlands with seasonal creek).

Duration: 10-11am (1 hour)

Standards: all ages
